Don't let the name fool you. Terrible's Hotel and Casino is one of the better value hotels off the Las Vegas Strip.

Located a mile east of the Strip, Terrible's is close to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas' sports complex, the Thomas and Mack Center. Although the place rocks with locals on the weekend, the property is typically quieter and less crowded than the Strip hotels, providing for a relaxed and low-keyed atmosphere.
The casino offers an abundance of slots, eight table games, large bingo parlor, and a race and sports book. An expansive garden courtyard contains a 50 foot, free-form pool with two children's sections and a 10-person hot tub perfect for social soaking.

Despite its intimidating moniker, this hotel offers guestrooms decorated with textured wallpaper, honey-colored furniture and muted burgundy-and-gold bedspreads. The rooms include 27-inch TVs, movies, video-game consoles, Internet access, and windows that open. In addition to room service, guests can pick from three inexpensive places to chow down, including Bougainvillea Café, the 24-hour restaurant with international, Mexican and Chinese menus. For the kids, there's even a McDonald's.

This low-key, friendly casino hotel draws visitors wanting off-Strip prices, casual ambience and a great location close to McCarran International Airport. In case guests wonder, Terrible's got its name from Ed 'Terrible' Herbst, who established a service-station chain in the 1930's and added convenience stores, bowling alleys and hotels/casinos.
